Is it really that time of the year already? July has definitely arrived faster than anticipated. It seems like just yesterday that it was snowing!

July is here though – loud and clear – and it’s time to celebrate!

Today is one of the most celebrated days of the summer, and many of us dog fanciers will likely be spending the holiday at our favorite place: a dog show, right? I know I will be enjoying a day filled with beautiful dogs! If you’re showing your dog today, remember to celebrate the holiday – win or lose.

Independence Day celebrations include something that many of us dog lovers simply do not love. You know what I’m talking about: fireworks. Fireworks and dogs undeniably don’t mix well! The truth is that even the bravest dogs can become scared of those loud booms that many people enjoy.

It’s true that the safest place for our furry friends on this day will be indoors, but what if you want to take your dog along with you on an adventure? Well, if you do, just be sure to take the proper precautions.

Sadly, many dogs go missing during this popular holiday. When you and your dog are out and about today, keep your dog close to you on a leash. Also, be sure to have proper identification tags in case your pup wanders – or dashes – away, The firework that are often part of Independence Day celebrations can be stress-related triggers for dogs. Remember to keep your four-legged friends close by so that they remain safe and happy!

Happy Fourth of July to all of you DFR readers, and remember, Dogs Freakin Rule!
