Montgomery County Wrap Up and Farewell to Mr. Goodman

It had been beautiful weather all weekend long, and the Montgomery County Kennel Club day was no different. Our Club is very proud of our site (Montgomery County Community College) and the hard work of the grounds chair (Ken Kauffman) and show chair (Carol Carlson) to make it as easy and pleasurable for our exhibitors… read more

Top Three Status Quo

My Monday Morning Mop Up this week follows familiar ground. Six of the 21 all-breed shows in the lower 48 this week were won by four of our Top Ten Dogs All Breeds, eight more were won by dogs ranked in the Top 100, and seven were won by dogs not yet in the Top… read more

Quality Not Quantity

We had far fewer shows this week than last, just 17 all-breed shows in six locations. Last week there were 43 all breeds in 15 venues. The fewer shows meant larger entries and more of our top-ranked dogs in the same show hall.  If you’ve been following Best In Show Daily and my blog, Dog… read more

Here in Houston: Day Three

It’s the final day of the Reliant Series of Dog Shows here in Houston, and none of the excitement has waned. Everyone is wondering whether we will see another head-to-head match between our Top Two Dogs All Breeds at today’s Galveston County Kennel Club show. I say don’t bet the lunch money. There are plenty… read more

Here in Houston: Day Two

The Beaumont Kènnel Club is hosting day two of the all-breed shows here in Houston at the Reliant Series of Dog Shows. The BKC is the largest of the three all-breed shows with over 2,500 dogs in the regular classes. Top-ranked dogs continue to appear. Many of them had competed at other all breed shows… read more

Here in Houston: Day One

Nonetheless, the moment I stepped inside the show hall, I immediately felt the electricity of one the… read more

Who Are the BIS Winners?

I have been struck these past several weeks by how many new faces I am seeing collecting BIS wins here at midyear. Being the numbers nerd I am, I am always suspicious about hunches, gut reactions and anecdotal evidence. So I decided to look at the numbers to see what they tell us. Above is… read more

Houston Doghouse Competition Benefits Community

When the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows opens this coming Wednesday, a passel of artfully miniaturized structures will greet visitors at one of the entrances to the Reliant Center in Houston, kicking off the ninth annual Designer Doghouse Competition and Showcase. All kinds of creative minds, from those of Girl Scouts to corporate… read more

Heading to Houston

Next week I am heading to Houston for the Reliant Series of Dog Shows, a week of specialties, limited-breed shows, and three all-breed shows that are among the largest we will see all year. The Houston shows cap a three-week tour through Texas that started two weeks ago in Dallas and is currently in San… read more

Top Two Throwdown

At first look one might think that the 2013 show season is a runaway. The Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, has maintained a better than 10,000-point lead over the field for the last two months. However, a look at the past few seasons leads me… read more
