GCH CH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind, 2011 WKC BIS Winner
It’s just 29 days to the granddaddy of all dog shows, the Westminster Kennel Club (WKC) show. The second oldest continuously running sporting event in the US (Only the Kentucky Derby is older), the WKC will host the 136th iteration of the canine classic on February 13th & 14th at New York’s Madison Square Garden. While the English may argue that March’s Crufts dog show in Birmingham, England is more prestigious and Europeans may point out that La Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) World Show (in Salzburg, Austria in May this year) will have over 20,000 dogs, most dog fanciers consider the Westminster show to be the most elite event in dogdom. This year’s show will be even more so, with entries limited to just 2077 dogs because of the ongoing renovation to the Garden.
The WKC has been broadcasting the show since 1948, three years before I Love Lucy premiered. This year dog lovers will be treated to six hours of live coverage of the Group & Best In Show judging on TV as well as on line streaming videos of all breed judging shortly after the actual judging. I will be in New York with the Best In Show Daily (BISD) team and we will be everywhere in the Garden. We will be bringing you the most complete coverage of any news source with reports on Twitter, Facebook, on Dog Show Poop (DSP) and here on BISD.
I will be doing several pre-Westminster articles over the next three weeks, both here at BISD And over on my DSP blog, including my Whom to Watch at Westminster (WWW), Group by Group, predictions. This year, for the first time since I began publishing DSP, I will be blogginglive from the Garden, bringing you breed results from ring side, the Back Stories from behind the scenes, and my Garden Party, a live three hour long chat room during the Monday & Tuesday night broadcasts.
Remember I am here with you daily with the Back Story.
