A couple of weekends ago, I was able to attend yet another fun match. The Mount Ogden Kennel Club put on the event, and, along with great prizes and a raffle, had lots and lots of fun planned for the day!
This time around was a bit different from the last one I went to, which you can read all about here. Instead of judging, this time I had a few in-training puppies to bring with me for, well, training. I even talked my mom into coming with me and getting in the ring herself!
We planned to just show our puppies in the Puppy class, but as we entered them, the club also mentioned they had an Adult Handling class, so we decided to enter that as well to get some extra time in the ring for practice purposes. That was definitely a first for me, and of course my mom managed to show me up, which of course made her happy! All in all though, we both had fun and managed to get our young ones out of the house and into the ring!
Not only did the club offer Adult Handling, but also Junior Handler, Puppy and Adult classes, which gave all of the dogs several chances in the ring. This was great for me, along with many others who came to train their little ones. I also found that wasn’t the only reason some locals came out to the match, even with the snow and all. Some people came simply because they love dog shows, and although this may not be considered a real dog show, to them it is just as good!
If you want to have a little fun and are involved in your club, what are you waiting for? Bring it up at your next meeting, and get the ball rollin’! I promise fun matches are a lot of fun, and are one thing that helps to keep our sport alive and going strong!
Remember, fun matches and Dogs Freakin’ Rule!
