Horace Greeley didn’t have a dog show in mind when he famously advised, “Go West, young man, and grow up with the country,” but then I am old and I am wiser than most young men. Therefore, I am here in Greeley CO to take in the Greeley Kennel Club’s two shows and bring you all the excitement as it happens. With over 2,000 dogs entered today, there will be many of the top dogs here trying to get their share of those points. I will be posting stories and results throughout today, so check back with me every hour or so.

CH Brodny Schoolhouse Investment

I started my day with the Wirehaired Dachshunds, a breed which is easy for a Terrier guy like me to fall in love with. Judge Danelle Brown had 22 of the sprightly little dogs to choose from, half of which were specials. She chose CH Brodny Schoolhouse Investment, a standard size, 22-month-old dog

GCH CH Gleanntan Gaelforce

Next I headed for Robert Black’s ring to get my Terrier fix of the day. First up were 20 Skye Terriers. In many parts of the US, you can go all year and not see 20 Skyes. I particularly appreciate the chance to see some Skye puppies, as I am mostly acquainted with fully mature dogs already dripping in coat. But it was really a treat to see a couple of the drop ear variety, which is rarely seen these days. Nine of the entry were specials, and judge Black had a handsome group to choose from. His Best Of Breed was GCH CH Gleanntann Gaelforce, a 5-year-old, prick ear dog.

GCH CH Peremi Roll the Dyce

Next up were 16 Bedlington Terriers, an entry four to five times what I normally see. Today judge Black had nine specials. The one he chose was GCH CH Peremi Roll the Dyce.

CH Alegria History in the Making

One of the things I love about these shows is the serendipity. While talking to one of the locals, I mentioned I had seen a photo of a silver Miniature Poodle from the area that was one of the palest, prettiest colors I had ever see. Happily, I was led to Clay Coady’s ring just in time to see him award his BOV to CH Alegria History in the Making, the dog I had been looking for for four months.
