On this Mother’s Day, I can’t help but think of how much pleasure my wife takes from the little things that our children and grandchildren do. Almost daily for the last 36 years, Brenda has called me to tell me that my son was making up obscene lyrics while singing along with Bert & Ernie on “Sesame Street,” my daughter had fed oatmeal to my VCR, my older granddaughter lost her first toot or my younger granddaughter had just rolled over for the first time. Those who don’t have children (and a good percentage of men who do) will never understand just home much pride & pleasure is derived from these little accomplishments of life. However, anyone who owns a dog can relate to hearing that my Scottie, Bernie, always takes a stuffed animal outside to shake at the squirrels in the yard, that my Cairn, DeeDee, wags her tail in a figure “8” when greeting my wife, and my IG, Pepe, sleeps under my covers. So I think you can relate to the surrogate moms whose dogs gifted them with BACK2BACK BIS today.
The 7-year-old Giant Schnauzer bitch, GCH CH Skansen’s C’Sofia of Grandeur, had been a frequent Working Group winner over the past five years, but had not won a BIS until yesterday when she took home the big rosette at the day two show of the St. Hubert Kennel Club in North Stonington, CT. Today Sofia made it two with a BIS at the Windham County Kennel Club show in Woodstock, CT. The German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, and the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, have been battling it out for the Number One spot in the all-breed rankings for these past several weeks. Both posted all-breed Bests yesterday, and both did it again today, the GWP at the day two show of the Ravenna Kennel Club in Tallmadge, OH, and the Doberman at the day two show of the Scott County Kennel Club in Rock Island, IL.
I’m not sure comparing losing a first tooth to BACK2BACK BIS is fair, but I will leave that call to the mothers in the audience. And that’s today’s Back Story.
