GCH CH Kiarry's Pandora's Box

GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box

It’s just one week before Westminster, and our field has shaped up to be one of the most exciting ever. We will see a mixture of the old guard and the up and coming next week when they hang up the purple and gold banners in New York.

The nation’s Number One Dog, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, was in Phoenix this weekend, where she added two BIS to her 2013 record. More remarkably, she remains undefeated in the Terrier Group, winning 17 straight. However, things do change rapidly early in the year, and our current Number Two Dog, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Six Pence, was in Atlanta this week collecting two BIS and four Sporting Group Ones (You do remember that a Sporting Group One is, on the average, worth three Terrier Group Ones, right?), adding nearly 3,700 points to his tally.

Also benefiting from the big numbers in Atlanta was the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Classic Red Glare, who collected two BIS, three Toy Group Ones and a Group Two. Last year’s Number One Toy Dog, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, has opted to sit out January, but I have no doubt he will still be the odds makers’ favorite in the Toy Group. The Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, is hoping to repeat her 2012 Working Group win next week and has kept her hand, or paw, in the competition with BACK2BACK BIS just last weekend in San Francisco. She took this week off to rest up for the big dance.

One dog that is leaving nothing to chance is the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box. Jewel spent five days on the boardwalk in Wildwood NJ, coming away with two BIS, one RBIS, four Hound Group Ones and a Group Three, good enough to move her into the Top Five Dogs All Breeds.

However, among the 2,700 dogs who will gather in New York next week will be many whose names many of us have not heard yet. Over the last year and in the last month, several dogs have come to my attention who just could be spoilers. Check back with me on Friday, and I will tell you about some of them. And that’s today’s Back Story.
