The sporting group is judged this evening by Paula Nykiel Mrs. Nykiel began in the ‘70s as a breeder-owner-handler of Pointers and has bred over 50 champions under the Sydmar kennel name.

This group has some serious powerhouse players on the floor.

Contenders include Angus the Clumber with Erin Myers. GCHS CH Clussexx Man Of Steel, started 2017 as #3 dog all breeds with 11 group wins in the first month of the year. And the brown ASCOB Cocker, GCHG CH Silverhall Strike Force, piloted by Mike Pitts ended up #6 all breeds last year.

These two dogs were first and second at the AKC national championship in Orlando last year.

The Golden Retriever, GCH CH Tamarack And Blueprint’s Defying Gravity, with handler Clint Livingston was a definite crowd favorite.

Irish Setter GCH CH Vermilion’s Sea Breeze shown by Adam Bernardin was the number four sporting dog last year.

Gordon Setter, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Brittany are possible.

We had a major upset in Springers, with Robin Novack coming through with her GCHB CH Telltale Stauette, so it will be interesting to see how that goes.

And, the GWP may be in the mix. Handled by a teenager from Florida, miss Billie Green, Bebe also won the breed in Orlando in December and made the cut in the group there.

Mrs. Nykiel has made her cut. The GWP, Golden, Toller, Irish, Clumber, IWS, Spinone, WPG.

Angus is bringing down the house.

And the winners are Irish Setter, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Golden Retriever, Irish Water Spaniel.

The Working Group

The working group, judged by Saint Bernard breeder John Ramirez, is also deep in quality, with five of the top ranked working in the country last year making it through to the group.

The top two dogs in the group last year, by the numbers, were the Boxer, GCHP CH Mephisto’s Speak Of The Devil with Diego Garcia and the Akita, GCHP CH Mojo’s Continuation Of A Myth, shown this evening by Laurie Jordan-Fenner.

Standard Schnauzer GCHS CH Wunderkind One Golden Moment with Tiffany Skinner and Great Pyrenees GCH CH Rivergroves Enough Said shown by Angela Lloyd are both in the running.

The Giant Schnauzer, Bernese Mountain Dog and Kuvasz look good.

The Newfoundland and Portugese Water Dog breed winners were both bred by the legendary Peggy Helming of Pouch Cove Fame. The Water Dog is a son of the famed Matisse.

Ramirez makes his cut with the Akita, Berner, Boxer, Cane Corso, Great Pyrenees, Kuvasz, Saint Bernard and Standard Schnauzer.

Winners are the Boxer, Akita, Standard Schnauzer, Bernese Mountain Dog.

Diego picks Devlin up and hugs her… “For two years she gave her life for me, I cannot ask more.”

The Terrier Group

The final group decisions of the evening will be pronounced by Mr. Ken McDermott. A retired handler and breeder of Wire Fox Terriers amongst other breeds, Mr. McDermott is widely respected as a terrier man.

By the numbers from the year past, the Scottie with Gabriel Rangel and the Norfolk with Larry Cornelius or the Norwich with Susie Kipp would be the top competition. The Westie, Irish and Airedale are also top 10 terriers.

The Wire Fox, the Russell and Glen look like they could be in consideration.

Very cool to see several young up and coming junior handler age young people in several groups, but especially this one. Terriers are not easy dogs and draw enthusiasts who are as tenacious as they are.

Mr. McDermott’s picks include the Airedale, American Staffordshire, Cairn, Smooth and Wire Fox, Irish, Norfolk, Norwich and Westie.

His winners are the Norwich, GCHS CH Taliesin Twice As Nice, who won AKCNC; the West Highland White Terrier, GCH CH Lotrando Sunshine Celebration; Am Staff GCHG CH Roadhouse’s Life Of The Party CA DN CGCA; and, Norfolk GCH CH Yarrow Venerie Winning Ticket

German Shepherd Dog, Irish Setter, Boxer, Norwegian Elkhound, Miniature Poodle, Norwich Terrier, Pekingese……. From Diego’s passion to Pat’s persistence. From Rumor’s power to Adrian’s elegance. The poodle’s class, the terrier’s spunk and the Peke’s charm. A very intense BIS ring tonight.

Mr. Bradley is spoilt for choice, as they say. And making a real show of it for the crowd.

He’s made his choice. For the serious devotees of dogdom, I’m not sure there is a dry eye in the house watching a legend continue.

Congratulations to Rumor and her breeder/owner/handler, Kent Boyles.
