Del Valle Mania, plus Halloween Safety Tips

It’s not every dog show that has 53 rings for handlers to contend with, but that’s exactly the number that greeted exhibitors at this year’s Del Valle weekend in Northern California. DFR Blogger Kayla Bertagnolli knows what it was like, because she followed the dogs around those rings for five days. Find out how our favorite photographer sums up the experience, and check out a few of the incredible shots she captured along the way.

Trick-or-treaters will likely be making the rounds in your neighborhood tomorrow, and Senior Editor Christi McDonald reminds us to think of our dogs’ safety throughout the day. Chocolate isn’t the only potential hazard that dog owners need to consider. Let Christi’s checklist be your guide to keeping your pooch out of harm’s way on All Hallows Eve.

Many of this year’s top show dogs are featured in their own beautiful mini-websites on Best In Show Daily. Simply click on a banner ad to see the dog’s up-to-date show history, plus a slide show of photos that reveals exactly why it’s a top dog.

Keep Your Pooch Safe on Halloween
By Christi McDonald

Halloween is a fun holiday for almost everyone, but there are a few things to keep in mind for keeping your pet safe on All Hallows Eve.

Del Valle Mania
By Kayla Bertagnolli

For most who attended the Del Valle shows in Pleasanton, Calif., weekend before last, the reviews have been mixed. The chat around the show was that while it’s great and all of the big dogs come out, which make the wins more worthwhile, the site itself is just so big that it's not only hard to navigate, but it can take 15-plus minutes to get to your ring and by the end of five days, your body just can't do it anymore. more
