Ten Things to Like About Westminster, plus a Final Farewell to the Juniors Ring

Billy Wheeler will be covering Westminster week for Dog Show Poop fans and readers of The Back Story. Our Blogger-in-Chief will be sitting ringside at some of this weekend’s specialty shows, and he can be found on Monday and Tuesday at Piers 92/94. With so much to see and do in New York, find out how Billy’s managed to keep his list of favorite things down to 10.

Showing at Westminster can be a bittersweet experience, especially for young exhibitors who are competing in Junior Showmanship for the last time. In her interview with one such competitor, DFR Blogger Kayla Bertagnolli finds out how it feels to “age out” at the Garden, and learns that for those kids who want to become more involved with breeding purebred dogs in the future, it’s only the beginning.

Be sure to check out our photo galleries, where you’ll find recent winners and candid photos from shows held near and far. Just click on Show Scene below the masthead banner, or select any of the images in the left-hand column of our home page.

At no time of year do I hear more tales of trepidation than the week before the Westminster Kennel Club show. more

By Kayla Bertagnolli

At this time of year, when everyone comes together to celebrate one of the most prestigious dog shows, we’re all reminded of just how much we love dogs.

For some though, it can be a bittersweet experience. For some junior handlers, the Westminster Kennel Club dog show is in fact their very last time showing in Junior Showmanship. This year I have the pleasure of going along on what is expected to be a wonderful journey with the one and only Morgan Mattioli from Califon, N.J.! more
