Westminster Finale, plus Sneaking a Peek with ‘Malachy’

Senior Editor Christi McDonald has plenty of news to report on the Group winners from the first night’s judging at Madison Square Garden. The breed winners from the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding Groups made their way from Piers 92/94 back to the “home” of the world’s most famous dog show. Find out the names of the dogs that made the cut, and meet the three grand champions and a Bred-by dog that will compete for Best in Show tonight.

Pekingese ‘Malachy,’ GCh. Palacegarden Malachy, captivated the crowd at the Garden last year, and the little lion dog spent much of 2012 as the dog sport’s busiest good will ambassador. Discover what he and handler David Fitzpatrick have been up to since their big win last year.

You’re invited to drop in tonight at Blogger-in-Chief Billy Wheeler’s online Garden Party where readers will be following along as the Sporting, Working and Terrier Groups compete. Just click on the “I ‘Paw’ NY” logo, then follow the link to the party. Share your thoughts on the judging, and see who caps the night as Michael Dougherty’s choice for Best in Show.

Lesser men and larger dogs might have folded under the pressure, but the pair took the madness that comes with the victory in their stride. more
