A Crate Debate, plus Sterilization and Mortality

Today Senior Editor Bo Bengtson takes up the question of whether – and how – to use crates. Most Europeans consider crates to be “cages” and not appropriate places for man’s best friends. Bo, however, points out that many dogs like a place to get away from the hubbub of the average American home. He also shares the instructions he provided to Whippet puppy buyers during his decades of breeding.

“There is no other species where we can even begin to study cause of death as closely as we do with dogs.” So says an assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine of a study that reviewed how sterilization affects longevity.
