Horse Equipment Saves Dog, plus What Best in Show Means
A Bernese Mountain Dog had been having trouble breathing for six months when he finally got to the veterinary teaching hospital at the University of California, Davis. A second set of X-rays sent the specialists on a mission to remove a mass in her trachea. To do that, they solicited the assistance of colleagues who work on horses, not dogs. We think you’ll enjoy the story of Bryggen’s treatment and recovery.

So, what does a Best in Show win really mean? Senior Editor Bo Bengtson has pondered this question periodically, so he decided to delve into it – from a numbers perspective. Using results from a random 100-plus shows held during late 2012, Bo found that nearly 40 percent of BIS wins were awarded by judges who were not approved to judge that particular breed. Find out what else he learned from his analysis.
