CH Goldsand's Columbus,

CH Goldsand’s Columbus

A quick look at this past week’s shows reveals that the season is now getting serious. You could tell it was serious by the fact that there was only one two-day venue this week. The serious campaigners headed for the multi-show clusters: the four-day shows in Tallahassee FL, Chicago, Hattiesburg MS and Albany OR. New York fanciers headed to Suffern for three days, and laid-back Southern California exhibitors spent a leisurely two-day weekend in Del Mar.

Unlike previous weeks, no one dog dominated. Two dogs did manage to collect multiple BIS this weekend, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, and the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Sayo’s Jai Ho. The Foxhound, Jewel, was in Suffern this weekend where she took two of the three available big rosettes, while the Smooth Fox, Tessa, went two for four in Hattiesburg.

Our Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, was in Chicago where she made her debut last year with back2back BIS. This year she shared the limelight with the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsand’s Columbus. Each won two Terrier Groups and one BIS. Other Windy City BIS winners were the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression de Matisse.

Jewel, Sky & Matisse were not the only dogs in our Top Ten to score big rosettes this week. The Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, and the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, were in Tallahassee for the four-day set and picked up a BIS each. The Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, was Jon Cole’s BIS at Sunday’s Mckenzie Cascade Dog Fanciers show in Albany, and the Rottweiler, GCH CH Chancellor Flirt’s Hi Flyin’ Gladiator, caught the eye of Janice Pardue at the Saturday show of the Silver Bay Kennel Club of San Diego in Del Mar.

One thing I thought was significant this week was that there were no BIS winners from the Sporting Group. After two years of the Sporting Group dominating the top of our rankings, it appears that we may see the Working Group coming to the forefront. In addition to the three Working Dogs already mentioned, the Saint Bernard, GCH CH Jamelle’s Aristocrat V Elba, became the latest Dog Show Poop DOG2WATCH by picking up a BIS at Saturday’s Ochlockonee River Kennel Club Of Florida show.
