Neon Bridge, Bossier City LA

Spring has sprung in the dog world with 35 all-breed shows in 13 different locales this week. Exhibitors with stamina can choose from four four-day clusters, the Terre Haute Kennel Club & Bloomington Indiana Kennel Club’s collaboration in Terre Haute, the Burbank Kennel Club & Angeles Canyon Dog Club’s offering in the LA burg of City of Industry, both of which kick off tomorrow, or the Shreveport Kennel Club & D’Arbonne Kennel Club’s four in Bossier City, LA, or the Palouse Hills Dog Fanciers & Lewis-Clark Kennel Club’s quartet in Lewiston, ID, which begin Friday.

In the Mid-Atlantic, we have a limited-breed opportunity, the Columbia Terrier Association of Maryland, warming up Friday for the Old Dominion Kennel Club of Northern Virginia, the Baltimore County Kennel Club & the Catoctin Kennel Club in Timonium, MD. New Englanders can have a long weekend in West Springfield, MA, with the Springfield Kennel Club, the South Windsor Kennel Club & the Pioneer Valley Kennel Club.

Traditional two-day shows abound. Take your pick of a weekend with the Heartland Dog Club of Florida in Sebring (I would love to know the genesis of that name. Is it a bunch of ex-patriate Missouri retirees or just a group of geographically confused seniors?) The hometown kennel clubs will host two days of shows in the Midwest towns of Fond Du Lac, WI, Waterloo, IA, & Grand Island, NE.

Here in the Mid-South, you can catch the canine action in Harrison, AR, courtesy of the North Arkansas Kennel Club. Our NorCal offering is the Chief Solano Kennel Club’s two shows in Vallejo at the top of San Francisco Bay. Finally, if you are looking for a leisurely one-day experience, drop in on the Central Ohio Kennel Club in Columbus.

So come on out and check out your local AKC dog show. You may even see one of us there. We will be busy all week bringing you results via the Best In Show Daily & Dog Show Poop Twitter feeds, the BISD Facebook page and Dog Show Poop’s show reports. And that’s today’s Back Story.
