Our show week gets under way this week with the Birmingham Kennel Club’s show in Columbia AL, the first of four all-breed shows at that location. There are also four show clusters in Valley Center KS and Phoenix AZ starting on Friday. All three sites will draw respectable numbers, around 1,000 dogs a day.
However, the largest single show this week will be the Saginaw Valley Kennel Club show in Birch Run MI, which has drawn 1,453 entries for its Saturday show. There are an additional five venues hosting all-breed shows of the two-day variety, West Springfield MA, Elkton FL, two different Texas towns, Big Spring & Crosby, and Merced CA, the gateway to Yosemite National Park.
The equitable distribution of points makes it unlikely that the anyone will gain much on the Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky. However, last week’s multi-BIS performances by the second, third and fourth dogs, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, and the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression de Matisse, leaves the runners-up separated by only a few hundred points. Where they will end up this week is anybody’s guess. The next few coming weeks should see a coalescing of our Top Ten.
In the meantime, check out one of this week’s offerings. While the big points will be at the big cluster, if you are on the West Coast and you can spare an extra day, do a drive-by in Yosemite, one of the planet’s most impressive spots. I will be back here on Friday with up-to-the-minute standings for you. And that’s today’s Back Story.
