I am now caught up with my statistics and have both the Traditional Top Ten Dogs All Breeds and my Dog Show Poop Top Ten Dogs updated through last weekend. Here, early in the year, the rankings are very volatile, but even at that there are some surprising trends.

We currently have four Sporting Dogs in the Traditional Top Ten, led by the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm. The English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, has made an impressive advance this month, climbing from Number Ten to Number Two, with two BIS and a string of big Sporting Group wins. The early leader, the English Setter, GCH CH Oakley’s B’Dazzled, slips to the Number Five spot. The Black Cocker, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction ‘Beckham’ joins the Top Ten in dramatic fashion on the strength of four straight BIS post Westminster.

That’s four Sporting Dogs in the Top Six. While I heartily believe that all four deserve to be there, it is a pretty extraordinary situation. Rounding out the Top Ten are two Working Dogs, two Toy Dogs and two Standard Poodles. Looking deeper into the rankings, you will find only one Hound, one Terrier, & one Herding Dog in the Top Twenty. I will analyze these circumstances in a future post, but for now I just want to share the data.

My Dog Show Poop rankings also have the same four Sporting Dogs in the Top Ten, in a slightly different order, holding down the Number One, Five, Six, & Seven spots. DSP also includes the same two Working Dogs, Toy Dogs, & Standard Poodles, but has one Terrier, the Kerry Blue Terrier GCH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey. In a bit of serendipity, the Kerry ties for the Number Ten spot with the Standard Poodle, GCH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, the former shown by Bill McFadden and the latter shown recently by his wife, Taffee McFadden.

Check back with me on the Dog Show Poop site for the latest in the rankings and here on Best In Show Daily for an in-depth analysis of the show scene. And that’s today’s Back Story.
