This morning I loaded the last of the weekend numbers for the Top 100 Dogs All Breeds into the Dog Show Poop database, and I thought I would share some observations with you all.
Our Top Three Dogs have started to open up a lead on the rest of the field. The Number One Dog, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, made the most of her two days out last week, picking up a Group One & a BIS to maintain her lead on Number Two, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm. Oakley is keeping the heat on with a four-show performance netting three Group Firsts & a Best in Show. The Number Three Dog, the Kuvasz, GCH CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, kept his hand with a Group One & an all-breed best at the Silver State Kennel Club’s two shows in Boulder City, NV.
The Kuvasz, Tanner, who is about 3,000 points behind Number Two is almost 2,000 ahead of Number Four, the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova. The ESS, Peyton, is in a tight race with the next four dogs, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction & the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari. The standout in this group was the Standard Poodle, London, who tallied back-to-back BIS at the Packerland Kennel Club shows in Manitowoc, WI.
Rounding out the Top Ten are the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, who has been on hiatus these past two weeks, and the English Setter, GCH CH Oakley’s B’Dazzled. Dazzle was also in Nevada this weekend and scored a Sporting Group One & a BIS. The Kerry’s absence has far-reaching repercussions in the rankings. One, we are in jeopardy of having no Terriers in the Top Ten Dogs All Breeds for two consecutive years, an unprecedented circumstance in AKC competition. Two, there are four dogs anxiously awaiting their chance to break into the Top Ten, Number 11, the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere’s Dusting Of White At Pevyne; Number 12, the Boxer, GCH CH R and G’s Mystical Dancer; the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore; & the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style. Anyone of the four could be in the Top Ten next week.
Rounding out the Top 15 is our highest ranked Hound, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, a major coup for one of AKC’s rarest breeds. Only English Foxhounds are rarer. I cannot remember an American Foxhound being this high in the all-breed rankings. I’ll defer to the handful of Foxhound breeders out there to confirm that. The remaining five in the Top Twenty are the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Summit’s Emery It’s in the Bag; the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky; the only Herding Dog in the Top Twenty, GCH CH Rocheuses Me and My Shadow of Cornus; the Rottweiler, GCH CH Chancellor Hi Flyin’ Gladiator; & the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Tamarin Top Banana.
This year’s race is among the most competitive I have witnessed. Tomorrow I will take a look at how it compares to prior years. Check back with us for more of the Back Story.
