GCH CH LTO Prosperity

As I review this week’s show results, one thing stands out like a beacon. Only two of our Top Ten Dogs All Breeds took home a Best in Show this week. Our Number One Dog, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, had a great weekend, taking home four top prizes, the Northern California Terrier Association’s two limited-breed shows and the Sacramento Kennel Club’s two all-breed shows. Our Number Seven Dog, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsand’s Columbus, was in Indiana picking up a big rosette and two Group One ribbons.

That meant there were lots of opportunities for some up-and-coming dogs to climb a few rungs up the rankings. Out in Washington State, the nation’s Number 12 Dog, the white Standard Poodle bitch, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, made a bid to get into the Top Ten with back2back BIS at the Ephrata-Moses Lake Kennel Club’s two shows. We will have to wait until the final numbers are in to see if the wins were big enough to move Ally up.

The most impressive performance this week was by the King Charles & Ruby English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity. Prosperity and handler Jeff Wright were in Grove OK for the Northeast Oklahoma Kennel Club and the Bartlesville Kennel Club’s four shows. By the time they packed up on Sunday evening, they had four Toy Group One ribbons and three BIS rosettes. It is unusual enough to see a KC&R Toy Spaniel win an all-breed BIS, but to have one go three for four in one weekend is virtual unheard of. Maybe one of you breed specialists can let me know if this the first hat trick ever by a Toy Spaniel. Prosperity now has five BIS so far this season. My congratulations to Jeff, breeder/owner Mark Landers, and owner Ray Cole.

In addition to the above BIS winners, there were also four first-time BIS winners: the Pointer, CH Penpoint-Honor Abracadabra; the Weimaraner, GCH CH Doc N Camelots Heaven Can Wait; the Boxer, CH Jokar’s N Happy Tail’s Fergalicious; and the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Crispy Legacy. So what do I take from this set of show results? There are still lot of surprises out there. Come out and enjoy one of AKC’s shows. You never know when you will stumble across the next great dog. And that’s today’s Back Story.
