Just a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of hand-delivering a Beagle puppy to a fellow dog show friend on the East Coast. It’s not often that I travel with a baby puppy, let alone fly with one. In fact, I’ve never flown with a dog that I was able to carry with me on board. So, if nothing else it was definitely a learning experience.

Flying with your four-legged friend may have its “ruff” times, but surprisingly enough, it can be pretty enjoyable as well.

The little stinker that I recently traveled with was an absolute angel.

Little Miss Dewey makes herself at home at our second-to-last destination.

This little girl has literally never been on a bigger adventure, but all she did was snooze away the hours on the plane. On our layover she popped her little head out of the bag and didn’t fuss or fight at all. She was just curious why all of these strangers were staring at her. And believe me she had a lot of lookers!

Dewey rests her head on the side of her carrier, checking out all of the people at the airport.

Now to get to the important stuff. Although most of traveling with your four-legged friend does happen to be very enjoyable, it’s also important to be properly prepared beforehand.

You need a proper heath certificate, along with a carrier. These can be found pretty easily. Just be sure when you are shopping for one to look for the “airline safe” tag or note, and you should be good to go.

Also, I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I made sure to pack an extra towel and wet wipes in case of emergencies.

In the end, Little Miss Dewey was on her way to her new home with no fear at all! It was a bittersweet experience for me, but one that I wanted to share with my DFR readers.
