Even though gas is over $4 a gallon in many parts of the U.S., it has not kept our top dogs from seeking out the points wherever they are. This weekend the points are in Scottsdale, AZ, where nearly 10,000 points are up for grabs. After Thursday’s Sun Country Terrier Club limited-breed show, the all-breed action got under way yesterday with Scottsdale Dog Fanciers Association’s show, the first of four all-breed shows at Scottsdale’s WestWorld.
The country’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, and handler Phil Booth traveled 2,000 miles from Michigan to pick up yesterday’s Best in Show, and over 2,000 points, from Robert Schreve. Coming even farther was the Number Two Dog, the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Champagne Supernova. Peyton and handler Robin Novack hail from Virginia, 2,200 miles away. They finished second in the Sporting Group behind Oakley and Phil.
The Number Ten Dog, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, and handler Bill McFadden’s 700-mile trek seems leisurely by comparison. However, after scoring the BIS at Thursday’s Sun Country Terrier Club show and a Terrier Group One yesterday, I’m sure they think it was time well spent. The Number Nine Dog, the Kuvasz, GCH CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, and handler Diana Wilson, were rewarded with a Working Group Three after making the 850-mile journey from Denver, CO. The Non-Sporting Group winner was the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Vaje’s Jethrene Bodine. This promising newcomer and handler Clint Livingston’s home is also in Colorado, in the town of Brighton just north of Denver.
The dog that won yesterday’s Working Group was the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style. Macey and handler Michael Shepherd hail from east Texas, almost 1,100 miles away. Also hailing from Texas is the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Aubrey’s Tails Of Mystery. Libby and handler Sherri Hurst, from Houston, traveled 1,200 miles to pick up a Herding Group Three.
If you live in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area, jump in the family car and head over to WestWorld to see all these beautiful animals that have traveled so far. And that’s today’s Back Story.
